Responsible Parenthood for Sustainable Development
"The state shall defend the right of the spouses to found a family in accordance with their religious
convictions and the demands of responsible parenthood"
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
1969 - Creation of Commission on population which was mandated to serve
as a central coordinating and policy making body in the field of
population.
1970 - Launching of the National Population Program the principal trust of
which was the reduction of fertility and with family planning as the
core strategy.
1975 - Piloting of total Integrated Development approach (TIDA) and the
National population and Family Planning outreach program in 10
provinces.
1977 - Establishment of Population Office in the Provinces and Cities
GOALS:
To contribute in improving the quality of life of all Filipinos through better reproductive health.
Attainment of population outcomes that are in harmony with available resources and environment
condition and reduction in poverty and inequalities in human development opportunities.
OBJECTIVES:
1. Help couples/parents achieve their desired family size within the context of responsible
parenthood for sustainable development.
2. Improve the Productive health of individual or individuals and contribute to further deduction of
infant mortality.
3. Reduce the incidence of teenage pregnancy, incidence of early marriage and incidence of other
Reproductive Health Problems.
4. Contribute to policies that will assist government achieve a favorable balance between population
distribution and economic activities
